I need suggestions to key a classroom discussion around values or morality using the film In Harms Way?

John W asked:

I teach Court Competency for felons found Incompetent to Stand Trial due to a mental illness. I have limited supply of films and want to show the war movie In Harm’s Way and lead a group discussion that will have some tie in to morality, values, mental health or law.

Here is my caveat. While I find blogging here useful, I always get some ridiculous answers from people with more opinions about the criminal justice system than the question I’m asking. Don’t bother with suggestions about how my patients all should be killed or punished like dogs as opposed to given therapy. It is unrealistic even in the individual cases where I may agree with you. There isn’t near enough money to lock all the antisocial men in CA up. Most of these men will get out in the near future, and most are as mentally ill and/or ignorant as they are antisocial.

While a few are remorseless sociopaths I am not allowed to kill or treat them like dogs so such suggestions do us both no good.

Thanks,

craig
