Could someone explain to me the ropes of blogging and RSS feeds?

My friend is starting his own blog in hopes of making some money off of it and coincidentally wants me to be a co-writer for his blog.

The only problem is that he’s a online social network freak and knows all the workings of stuff like RSS feeds, google reader subscriptions, and friend feeds allowing him to gain access to large amounts of news stories he wants to make opinions on.

And I only have a very limited knowledge of how all this RSS feeds and blogging business works…could someone please explain to me all this so I can find something to write about before he gets pissed?
