Snob-Bloggers: You Just Might Be A Snob If You Publish A Blog
You Might Be A Snob-Blogger If? According to Jupiter Research, about 2 percent of the online community has created a blog. That works out to millions and millions of blogs, and in turn, millions and millions of snobs who publish them. That's an awful lot of Snob-Bloggers! You see, in order to care enough to publish a blog, you really need to be somewhat of a snob. Before we get into the reasons why, let's look at the definition of snob. Snob ? 1. One who tends to patronize, rebuff, or ignore people regarded as social inferiors and imitate, admire, or seek association with people regarded as social superiors. 2. One who affects an offensive air of self-satisfied superiority in matters of taste or intellect. (As defined on Dictionary.com) Combine that definition with the definition of a blogger, and you get a Snob-Blogger, defined as 'anyone who blogs, period'. Yes that's right, bloggers by nature are snobs. Not me you say! Yes, you too! ALL bloggers are Snob-Bloggers! Do you publish a blog? Don't believe it? Take this handy dandy quiz to see if you fit the mold. 1. Have you ever commented about someone or something in a negative or superior manner on your blog? If so, you just might be a Snob-Blogger. 2. Do you and your blog readers commiserate about topics together on your blog comment system? If true, it's possible you might be a Snob-Blogger. 3. Does your blog link to all of your other blog friends who link back to you? On that occasion, you are most likely a Snob-Blogger. 4. If you have ever ranted about something that is only interesting to you and your blogger friends, you, I'm afraid are a Snob-Blogger. 5. If you know what RSS means, I'm guessing you are a Snob-Blogger. 6. If you would stop publishing your blog because you knew nobody was reading it, you my friend are most likely a Snob-Blogger. 7. Do you recognize Wil Wheaton as someone other than the geeky kid from Star Trek: The Next Generation? If so, you are certainly a Snob-Blogger. RSS stands for Really Simply Syndication and is a really easy way for a webmaster to share their news and information stories to the world wide web. Benefits to RSS RSS streamlines communication between publishers and readers. Since RSS has had a popularity surge, webmasters have been experimenting and using RSS feeds to deliver content in new and innovative ways. Typically, RSS feeds contain news headlines and content summaries. The content summaries contain just enough information without overwhelming the reader with superfluous details. If the reader is interested and wants additional information they can click on the item in the feed, accessing the website which contains additional details. RSS readers aggregate multiple feeds, making it easy for individuals to quickly scan information contained within each feed. Feeds are generally themed, allowing users to opt-in to feeds that are of interest. By creating a Blog and adding to it every day or relatively often, you create in your reader a desire to see "what was said next". They will return to read what you post next. Particularly, if what you posted the first time is interesting, valuable information, presented in a manner that is fun to read. A few ideas to get you off and running with your informational Blog, might include: travel, a new baby, planning your wedding, building a new business, working with your clients, developing a new product, counting your blessings, or ideas you are interested in sharing. Business Blogging - 5 Tips to Help You Smashl Through Writers Block It's inevitable. Everyone hits the wall. Whether you've been blogging ten weeks, ten minutes, or ten months, eventually you'll find yourself with absolutely nothing to say. Or so you think. So what in the world do you do when you're stumped? 1- Talk about what you've already talked about Pick a topic you've gone over before and give it some spin. Try a new angle, like playing devil's advocate. For example, if you are a search engine journalist, and last week your position was that most mainstream sites need Google traffic to survive, try proving your point from the "con" perspective, instead of the "pro" position. There are dozens of ways to write about the same thing. By putting your point another way, you might give someone in your audience what a client of mine referred to as an "Ah-ha!" moment. But as a professional, don't let yourself get too unfocused, and remember to back up your opinion with facts. 4- Feature someone, something or somewhere I like to call mine "of the Day". As I zip around the Net conducting my business and research, if my attention is called to a resource or tool that my audience might find useful, I hit my blog bookmarklet and save that bad boy for later. Then when I get too busy for a full blown tip, I'll crown the resource, feed, tool, download or freebie the featured "Deal of the Day", changing the word deal to something else more appropriate as needed. After a while, my audience started to look for it as a feature, as opposed to being upset at the interruption in my mad, mad rambles. 5- Let someone else talk for a change Invite a guest blogger, or post an article that offers free reprint rights, the same way you would in a newsletter. Of course you want to leave the resource box intact, or let the guest promote their site, which brings me to the most common complaint about this tactic. "But I don't want to send people away from my site." Guess what? You'll never believe what I found out. Ready? In a recent startling discovery, I've found that 100% of my visitors eventually turn off their computers or take otherwise drastic measures that cause them to leave my site. Apparently this is beyond prevention, though you can stall them for hours sometimes with good content. Of course you don't want to send them on their way prematurely, but if you're a good blogger, and have done what you can to make sure they sign up to your blog email updates or site feed, they'll be back. Just be sure that you're giving them a good enough reason. In the meantime, since they're going to leave anyway, it might as well be somewhere that gives you some direct or in-direct benefit.
